Main Street Mission
Since 1995, the National Trust Main Street Center has recognized cities who have embraced the Main Street approach to energizing their downtowns.
For nearly 20 years, Main Street has chosen five cities annually who embody the best of the best, and has awarded them the designation of a Great American Main Street community. In 1998, Thomasville was the first Georgia city to earn this honor. Fewer than 100 cities across the U.S. have ever received this award.
Downtown Thomasville is a core attraction for visitors who seek shopping, dining and entertainment.
The City of Thomasville Main Street program supports and promotes downtown economic development within the context of historic preservation. The program follows the Main Street “Four Point Approach” of Organization, Promotion, Design, and Economic Vitality. The four points work together to build a sustainable and complete community revitalization effort.
The mission of the Main Street program is to protect and preserve the historic fabric and charm of downtown Thomasville while ensuring that it remains healthy, viable, and economically sound.
